Does anyone have any idea what kind of timeline to expect with the SJC this year? I imagine it varies by justice. They started accepting applications on Sept 1, but I haven't talked to anyone who has heard a word.

Anonymous said...

chief j. marshall has scheduled interviews.

Anonymous said...

They sent me a letter confirming receipt of my application. It reads, "The Justices select their clerks from a pool of candidates whose applications have been screened by the court's administrative staff.... Those candidates who are especially well qualified will be interviewed."

Anonymous said...

No word yet. I got the letter confirming acceptance of my application too.

Anonymous said...

does anyone have any idea how long it takes for the apps to get through all the justices? (ie, when the last in the hierarchy would be calling for interviews?)

Anonymous said...

Cowen is calling

Anonymous said...

Superior Court is calling (at least starting to).

Anonymous said...

If Justice Cowin is calling, Chief J. Marshall is probably done. I heard the Appeals Court has also been calling/interviewing.

Anonymous said...

are you sure about the appeals court? The deadline isn't even until this week...

Anonymous said...

Land Court and Superior Court are scheduling interviews. I think Superior Court interviews are over next Thursday.

Anonymous said...

The Appeals Court has started preliminary screening interviews with their hiring coordinator. As apps come in, he interviews those that he think could make it to the next round. After all applications are in and all preliminary interviews have happened, he sends a list of around 100 applicants to justices who then schedule their own round of interviews. The prelimianry interview process should be completed sometime in October.

Anonymous said...

I concur with the above post. I interviewed with the appeals court screener (he is really nice) on Sept. 15. He informed me that around October the justices would begin interviewing. Best of luck everyone.

Anonymous said...

Correction, I concur to the extent that interviews have begun. However, I was told that the court of appeals receives around 400 applicants and he passes through only about 50.

Anonymous said...

Superior Court is calling for interviews with Justice Spina (next Tuesday - Thursday)

Anonymous said...

Sorry - meant to write SJC, not Superior Court

Anonymous said...

Superior Court screening interviews are ongoing at this time...today might have been the last day, but I'm not sure.

Appeals Court interviews are NOT over; I just received confirmation of receipt yesterday.

I don't know much about SJC, though.

Anonymous said...

Superior court interviews go until at least next thursday.

Anonymous said...

Judge Lenk (appeals) is calling.

Anonymous said...

Anyone heard anything else from the Appeals Court? I'm still waiting to hear something after my screener. Thanks.

Anonymous said...

Since my screening interview isn't until later this week, I doubt they'd be taking any action on previously screened candidates.

If it's any indication, they told me at the Superior Court I wouldn't be hearing until late in October, for second round interviews in November.

Anonymous said...

According to the Appeals Court's official posting at http://www.mass.gov/courts/courtsandjudges/courts/appealscourt/lawclerk_hiring.html interviews take place in October and offers are extended in November. It sounds like September interviews are more the exception than the rule.

Anonymous said...

The link above didn't copy correctly. It's

http://www.mass.gov/courts/courtsandjudges/courts/appealscourt/lawclerk_hiring.html

Anonymous said...

It still won't copy properly. I give up.

Anonymous said...

I have my screening interview with the appeals court in 2 days...for the people who have already had one, what is it like? Do they give any hard questions like which recent App Ct case is most significant, or is it just normal personal get-to-know-you chat about why you want the job and what you'd bring to it?

Anonymous said...

i have no idea - i have mine tomorrow

Anonymous said...

For those who already had an initial interview with the Appeals Court, or who at least have one scheduled already, when did you submit your applications? I am trying to determine if they just haven't gotten to mine yet, or if I'm already out of the running. Thanks.

Anonymous said...

I (2 posts up, asking about what App Ct interviews entail) got confirmation my app was received on the 27th, and was notified of my interview on the 28th.

However, I don't think you should assume you're out of the running. If you applied at the deadline, there's probably a ton of apps to sift through, so that will naturally delay any decision. Also, I think in some ways I was an unusually strong candidate. Don't give up hope.

Anonymous said...

To those of you who have already interviewed with Superior court APP of the SJC--how were you notified?

Anonymous said...

Superior by phone call, appeals by e-mail. Hopefully I'll have some additional information to share about the SJC soon, heh...

Anonymous said...

I submitted my application around September 1st and interviewed approx. 1-2 weeks later. The screening interview was pretty laid back - he didn't grill me about my resume or ask me anything about recent appeals court decisions. Mostly it was just getting-to-know you chit chat. He explained the interviewing/hiring procedure and time-table, gave me a tour and that was it. I was notified via email.

Anonymous said...

I believe there is an appeals court justice that you have to apply to separately - may be Lenk - which would explain why she is calling for interviews, etc. before the rest of the justices. As far as I know, they haven't started the second round of interviews yet.

Anonymous said...

Has anyone heard from family and probate court?

Anonymous said...

Just spoke with Supreme Judicial Court administrator - 4 of the 7 Justices have already hired their clerks. Of the remaining 3, 2 have already scheduled interviews.

Anonymous said...

Any clue who is the last of the SJC justices to not schedule interviews yet?

Anonymous said...

Re: the last SJC judge, I'm almost positive it's Sosman.

Anonymous said...

does anyone have a clue as to how many people applied for the 54 Superior Court positions?

Anonymous said...

Does anyone know when they finish interviewing for the Land Court clerkships?? Or if they have even interviewed anyone yet?

Anonymous said...

Has anyone heard from Probate & Family?

Also, regarding some of the above comments for Superior Court. My first interview isn't until the end of October.

Anonymous said...

The hiring coordinator for the Mass Appeals court has started emailing to schedule "second round" interviews for at least one of the appeals court justices.

Anonymous said...

probate & family is scheduling interviews

Anonymous said...

Appeals Court Judge Duffly is scheduling interviews

Anonymous said...

Land court is interviewing and they are even on to 2nd round interviews. I believe they make decisions around the end of October.

Anonymous said...

SJC Justice Sosman has hired one clerk.

Anonymous said...

Judge Kantrowitz on the Appeals Court has also begun interviewing

Anonymous said...

Has anyone been offered a Land Court clerkship?

Anonymous said...

Lenk, Duffly, & Kantrowitz have called for interviews. Have any other Appeals Court judges called?

Anonymous said...

Superior Court is calling for second round interviews. To those who've been called by the Appeals Court, was it an e-mail again? Were you contacted by Frank C. Mockler, or someone else? And any word on if there are still SJC Justices hiring?

Anonymous said...

I was contacted for my Appeals Court interview by Frank Mockler by email. Don't be concerned if you haven't heard from him yet - apparently some judges are much faster at moving through this process than others.

Anonymous said...

to the person who got a call from the superior court for a 2nd-round interview, did you get it from Mr. Camba or Ms. Layne?

Anonymous said...

I'm not the person who wrote earlier about the 2nd round Superior Court interview. However, I did get call for one, though not from Camba/Layne but some other individual.

Anonymous said...

To the person who said not to worry about Appeals Court interviews, since some judges were faster than others -- did Frank Mockler reassure you of this, or is this your own assumption about the process?

Anonymous said...

I am the person who initially wrote about a second round Superior Court interview. I was contacted by a "Ms. Johnson, judicial secretary." She was also the person who contacted me about my first-round interview. I wouldn't worry too much at this point if you're waiting to hear. From what I know, first-round interviews JUST ended, and even beyond that, spots reliably open up even late in the game. You're fine.

Anonymous said...

Mr. Mockler explained to me that the reason for the diffference between judges in terms of scheduling interviews is seniority. Thus, the most senior judges begin interviewing before other judges.

Anonymous said...

Has anyone heard about 2nd round interviews for Probate & Family? If so, how long after your first interview did it take?

Anonymous said...

I have not heard about second round for probate & family, and was wondering that too! According to the application, they take place in November. Does anyone know how many positions there are for probate & family?

Anonymous said...

At my 1st Probate and Family interview they said the 2nd round would be the 2nd & 3rd week of November (phone call if you're getting a 2nd, letter if not). No idea how many people they are looking to take.

Anonymous said...

Any updates on 2nd round interviews for the Appeals Court?

Anonymous said...

Kafker and Lenk from the Appeals Court are both done.

Anonymous said...

RE: Appeals Court Second Round interviews. Apparently the more senior judges do interview first. Mr. Mockler indicated to me that we are still early in the process. I don't know if less senior justices have begun interviewing yet. As far as I know, Judges Duffly and Kantrowitz have not yet hired clerks.

Anonymous said...

Does anyone know how long one should hold one’s breath for a call back on the Superior Court 2nd round interviews? Is it typical for them to take more than a week to get to everyone?

Anonymous said...

Yes. Spots tend to open up late in the game according my school's career services office. Moreover, first-round interviews spanned almost a month; it's not unreasonable at all to think second-round interviews might take more than a week.

Anonymous said...

Any offers from the land court?

Anonymous said...

I just (this morning) got a 2nd-round interview call from Superior Court... so don't give up yet!

Anonymous said...

Anyone get a call yet for a second interview with Probate & Family Ct?

Anonymous said...

Judge Kantrowitz on the Appeals Court is done

Anonymous said...

if anyone has had a second-round interview with Superior Court, what was it like?

Anonymous said...

Anyone have an update on Grasso (Appeals Ct)?

Anonymous said...

re: probate & family court: I got a message from Denise Fitzgerald but did not hear the message until after business hours so I will call tomorrow, assume it's a callback...

Anonymous said...

Is Superior Court still calling?

Anonymous said...

Land court anyone?

Anonymous said...

I had a second-round interview at Superior Ct - it was one judge (Connor, currently sitting in Brockton) and someone named Maria whose title I didn't catch. Judge Connor just asked me about what I had done at my internships. No hypotheticals. Nothing about my writing sample. Not what I expected. It was about 20 min (which I knew going in).

Anonymous said...

Any news from the Appeals Court?

Anonymous said...

I just got an email from Land Court telling me that they have extended offers to some folks already and are asking certain applicants if they would be interested in interviewing for a clerkship position with a potential 7th judge.

Anonymous said...

for those who were wondering how many people Superior Court is interviewing, my 2nd round interviewers told me that there are 5 teams of 2 judges interviewing 15-20 people each...so that means 75-100 people total (although I don't know if this includes Western Mass folks).

Anonymous said...

Just finished my second round interview. It was similar to that described above, and they told me decisions would be made by around Thanksgiving.

Anonymous said...

If you haven't heard from Superior Court by now, look for your rejection letter in the mail.

Anonymous said...

I was under the impression that spots open up late in the game at Superior Court. Is it not possible that further applicants could be contacted for interviews even at this late date?

Anonymous said...

RE: Superior Court. At least for western MA, I know the committee hasn't met yet, and was under the impression that it hadn't met yet to make final decisions for eastern MA either.

Anonymous said...

RE: Superior Court. I think it is safe to assume that if you haven't received a call back for a second round interview by now, you will not. But, who knows? Don't give up hope.

Anonymous said...

Does anyone know the timeline for probate & family from here on out?

Anonymous said...

RE: Probate and Family. I was told that they would reach a decision by Thanksgiving. As far as I know, they were still interviewing yesterday.

Anonymous said...

What's going on at the Appeals Court?

Anonymous said...

RE: Enduring hope for Superior Court: At a clerkship seminar organized by my school's career services office and attended by multiple former MA clerks, I was told that spots do tend to open up later in the winter, for a variety of reasons including clerks backing out of accepted offers. So, don't give up hope.

Anonymous said...

yes, but if they've interviewed 75-100 people during the second round, wouldn't it make sense to pick clerks later in the winter from among those, instead of going back to people who didn't get a second-round interview?

Anonymous said...

I spoke with a secretary at Superior Court this morning. She stated that those who had not been contacted for an interview would be contacted by mail. That doesn't sound good, does it? It disappoints me to say it, but if you didn't get a call back for round two than it stands to reason that you didn't make the cut. But, who knows? Maybe 60% of the pool of applicants will pass on their offers.

Anonymous said...

Is Superior Court still calling? When did they stop? The way I understood it was that they can contact anyone of the applicants for an interview right up to the point before the committee meets.

Anonymous said...

According to my second-round interviewers, the clerkship committee (at least for Eastern Mass.) is meeting "early" this week, so probably by tomorrow if they haven't already met.

Anonymous said...

Re: Appeals Court. I think that interviews with some of the more senior judges are wrapping up and that some of the more junior judges will begin to extend offers soon.

Anonymous said...

All current sitting Appeals Court judges have hired.

Anonymous said...

Ugh, the waiting is killing me! If anyone gets a call (or a letter) from Probate, would you be so kind and post?

Anonymous said...

I got a rejection email from Frank Mockler today.

Anonymous said...

Has anyone got an offer from Superior Court?

Anonymous said...

Yes, Superior Court is calling.

Anonymous said...

Is western mass calling?

Anonymous said...

Confirmed: SJC and Appeals Court are done.

Also Confirmed: Superior Court is calling, I really hope for offers, since I have a voicemail from Linda Layne I haven't yet been able to return.

Anonymous said...

What do you suppose the chances are of getting an offer without ever having interviewed in the second round? --holding on for one more day.

Anonymous said...

anybody hear from family and probate?

Anonymous said...

yes, please post if you hear from family & probate!

Anonymous said...

Re: superior court - they definitely have made offers, and those people have until this Fri (Dec 1) to respond. Then, they will do another round of offers. This info is from my friend who got an offer.

Anonymous said...

Has anyone heard from western massachusetts judges?

Anonymous said...

This doesn't really answer your question, but I remember being told at my first interview that Western MA was going to be significantly more competitive this year, because a surprisingly large number of people applied.

Anonymous said...

superior court (Eastern MA) has started the second round of offers

Anonymous said...

Does anyone know the total number of applicants for the Superior Court clerkship?

Anonymous said...

how long do the superior court second round of offerees have to accept/decline the offer?

Anonymous said...

I missed a call from the Superior Court and am wondering why they did not leave a voicemail. Did this happen to anyone else? Did they call back later?

Anonymous said...

has anyone heard from probate & family?

Anonymous said...

Probate and family: offers were extended before thanksgiving, but according to my school's career services, no rejection letters have been sent. maybe they are waiting for all the offers to confrim before sending final rejection letters.

Anonymous said...

how long do those with probate & family offers have to respond?

Anonymous said...

probate and family: people with offers were supposed to respond by Nov 29th. I think my chances are pretty slim at this point.

Anonymous said...

For superior court, I got an offer over the phone on Fri 12/1 and had to respond by today, 12/8.

Let's start in the past and work forward - seems to be fairly logical. Starting just before the Matt Busby era at United my first selection is Jack Rowley. He joined United before Busby came along. Though not the whole story, naturally a striker is measured to some extent by his goal tally. Rowley managed to net 211 times in 424 games for United before leaving the club in 1955. His tally of 211 makes him one of only 3 players to break the 200 mark. man utd vs Manchester United Football Club has brought great fame and glory to the city of Manchester because of its exploits in international fields of competition. For many people, Manchester United is not only a great football team but one of the city’s premier ambassadors of goodwill to the world. The team proudly represents some of the best qualities of the people and city of Manchester. vidic The current home games Manchester United shirt is red with a vertical, white stripe on the reverse. A patch with the words "The Red Devils" on a picture of the club's famous devil mascot is sewn onto to the bottom-left of the jersey. By contrast, the away shirt in use today is white with blue piping at the edges. It has red trim on the neck and the club emblem is on a white background on the left breast. The club emblem is pictured on a white background shield situated on the left breast. The emblem has been altered through the years but was originally designed based on the crest of the City of Manchester. One day Matt Busby was watching a local rugby team in Salford and was impressed by their flair and adventure on the pitch. When he discovered their nickname was "The Red Devils" he decided to attach it to his Manchester United team.

I searched online everywhere I could think of for a great deal and finally found it at Ordio in Westfield Bondi Junction. I telephoned them first and asked every question I could think of and everything was answered to my satisfaction so I went ahead and made the purchase. Shipping was very fast. Everything was perfect. I'm pretty darn happy and I'm playing it right now. Not sure if they dispatch outside of Australia but you won't be sorry if they do.
