Stevens and Ginsburg are both done. Thomas has filled 07 and appears to have started 08.

Details about all four of Justice Scalia's October 2007 hires are available here.

This sounds like a really great experience. Do I have to finish law school in order to get one of these clerkships? Also, are they very competitive?

"Are these competitive"--Funny, D-bag

Who did Stevens and Ginsburg hire?

stevens hired from penn, northwestern, cardozo, and i forget the last one.

ginsburg hired the harvard summa/law review president/moot court winner.

breyer hired his male clerks long ago, not sure about the female clerks. kennedy has started, but i don't believe he is done.

Re the "D-bag" question about whether one must finish law school to be a Supreme Court clerk, McGeorge Bundy was offered a clerkship by Felix Frankfurter despite the fact he never went to law school. So there may be hope! Bundy, of course, turned down the clerkship and went on to secure his place in history as a primary architect of the Vietnam War as Kennedy's National Security Advisor.

gasp, someone turned down a federal clerkship?! And the world did not end?!?

For the unenlightened, what's the timetable for applying to the SCOTUS? If one were thinking of applying for OT '08, when should the apps go in? (I'd ask my career services, but they're a parade of morons).

Thomas's hired one for OT 2009. Does anyone know anything about Thomas's hiring pattern? Seem a bit early to hire for OT09, no?

you don't get to the Supreme Court without having clerked for a US Court of Appeals. Have SCOTUS ambitions? Land a US Ct of Appeals clerkship first - preferably a "feeder" judge. Don't know what a "feeder" judge is? A Ct. of Appeals judge with a good relationship with a Supreme Court Justice who often sends said Justice their clerks.

Thomas has filled 08.

Anyone know if Breyer's hired yet for '08?
