I was trying to sneak an interview with Judge St. Eve while visiting another judge and was told by someone in her chambers that she just hired a clerk for 2007, so I assumed that meant she was done.
yes, it seems like some judges are quick to call and other lag behind. I am hoping many lag behind because that will lessen the competition for the later go'ers
oh, i totally agree. sorry- i didn't mean to sound like a snob or anything. i didn't mean "desirable" in a prestigious kind of way- i meant for personal reasons...
It sounds like McDade has not called anyone yet?? Good news if that is true, as I would live to clerk in my hometown of Peoria. Can someone confirm McDade has not called yet?
FYI, there's only 1 current rockford fed judge and he's taking senior status. they're in the process of hiring a new, active fed judge... but yes, the judge on sr. status does have career clerks... keep watching for the new judge though--he might not and so that could be a way to get a clerkship after the fact...
The clerk in Rockford thought the new federal judge might have to take at least one of the soon to be senior current career clerks so that clerk would not be out of a job as the number of clerks a senior gets is only one....at most, there would be one opening, and that would be assuming the new judge didn't want to fill both with career clerks....
Anyone know McDade's timeframe? I'd love to interview with him because he is my hometown federal judge but I have other judicial interviews in process and may not be on the market much longer....
"Anyone know McDade's timeframe? I'd love to interview with him because he is my hometown federal judge but I have other judicial interviews in process and may not be on the market much longer...."
Don't tell us--we don't care! Call chambers, you silly goose.
I believe the blog above stated chambers had been called to no avail. Perhaps the poster was trying to see if anyone had any inside information, but that was probably a misguided hope given that few posters on this board actually seem to have any useful information.
Has anyone heard anything from McDade yet? I know he had not started a few weeks ago, but has he started since then?
I just accepted a state supreme court clerkship, and I suspect several others who applied have accepted other clerkships - any idea why he waits so long as his list dwindles? That said, it will be good info for next year as my state supreme court clerkship is just one year, and I might be willing to apply for a one year federal district court clerkship for the following year before hitting the billable hours machine of big law. It'd be nice to know for future reference when he typically hires.
FWIW, McDade just switched his status in OSCAR to not accepting apps. However, he did not change his status in FLCIS to filled nor has he sent rejection emails via OSCAR like most judges do, so he may just have cut off the ability for further individuals to send in apps but not yet hired.
"District Judge Joe Billy McDade in Peoria [Illinois] has had a law clerk who has been on sick leave for two months. The law clerk has just resigned due to illness so he is looking for a law clerk who can start now. If you know of any interested persons, please refer them to Judge McDade. He has a strong preference for applicants who have prior law clerk experience."
Actually, per our career services office, it looks like the above post is on the wrong board - our career services office stated the Illinois State COA Judge McDade (federal judge McDade's ex-wife), not the federal judge J. B. McDade, was the one searching for a clerk....
I believe it is the federal judge, though he doesn't appear to be advertising the opening. Alums of a few law school who knew about the opening contacted their career services departments.
Does the state court McDade have an opening though?
McDade does have one career and one term clerk. The career position was open, but has now been filled. The Central District should be done entirely for awhile.
Despite the previous poster's insightful analysis, I consider myself a decent "player," and I haven't heard anything from Leinenweber. Think 5 weeks out, I can assume I'm toast? Should I expect a rejection letter? Any new info?

Leinenweber not hiring until March-April 2007
Andersen not hiring
Judge Aspen is scheduling.
Has anyone heard from Mihm?
Denlow is emailing
Goldgar is emailing
Why is Aspen the only N.D.Ill. judge on here for today?
N.D. Ill.: Shadur and Filip are calling.
I have not heard from Mihm - and had expected to....
anything on Scott or Reagan?
Judge Bruce Black has filled the position.
Has anyone heard from Judge St. Eve or Judge Kennelly?
heard Mihm called a student in another state besides Illinois
St. Eve started interviewing people out of law school beginning a few weeks ago and will also be interviewing law students.
what about bucklo/pallmeyer? have they made calls?
Holderman is only taking those with 2 years of post-law school experience
Pallmeyer has not reviewed resumes yet.
St. Eve just hired a clerk for 2007.
Is Judge St. Eve done hiring, or is she hiring more than one clerk?
I was trying to sneak an interview with Judge St. Eve while visiting another judge and was told by someone in her chambers that she just hired a clerk for 2007, so I assumed that meant she was done.
Kocoras has not reviewed resumes yet.
Does anyone know the hiring and/or interviewing patterns of the district judges in Chicago? Ivy League, Illinois schools, out-of-staters, etc?
anyone know if McDade in Peoria has called anyone?
Kendall is full for 2007 and Kocoras is only looking for a career clerk.
Has anyone heard from/know about Hibbler, Kendall, or Lefkow?
yeah, seriously, why is there such a lack of reports of n.d.ill. judges scheduling? are people just not posting or are they not calling (yet)?
yes, it seems like some judges are quick to call and other lag behind. I am hoping many lag behind because that will lessen the competition for the later go'ers
yes, but it also makes it hard for candidates who have ealier interviews in less desirable districts..
anyone who has an interview should be thankful regardless of how desirable the district is....

anyone here from Valdez?
Valdez is not hiring. I think her current clerk decided to stay on an additional year at the last minute.
Reagan in East STL anyone?
Has anyone tried leveraging their way into an interview with any of the N.D.Ill. judges who apparently still haven't called?
Who else is done hiring/not hiring? Here is the list I have so far:
St. Eve
Kendall
Andersen
I tried to leverage without much luck. Chambers just said they have not reviewed apps yet and therefore aren't ready to interview candidates.
who did you call that responded that they have not reviewed apps yet?
Kennelly has called.
Kocoras and Pallmeyer said they had not reviewed apps of the chambers I called.
I know someone who has interviews scheduled with Shadur and Filip -- both judges called last Thursday.
Pallmeyer is scheduling.
Does anyone know how long Judge Pallmeyer's clerkship is?
Pallmeyer clerkship is one year.
Judge Zagel is calling.
Judge Doyle (Bankr. ND Ill.) has filled the position.
Mihm, McDade, or Scott update anyone....Mihm is the only one linked to calls above....
Is Mihm done interviewing?
Scott has hired.
As of Friday, Hibbler and Lefkow are still reviewing applications
Aspen has extended offers.
Kennelly is done hiring.
any news on Darrah or Moran?
Moran's chambers told me he wasn't hiring back in July.
no word from darrah yet--anybody?
darrah has hired
Any status on Mihm or McDade?
Mihm has hired. McDade - no clue.
has anyone heard from pallmeyer?
has anyone heard from pallmeyer?
Reagan is calling
I know of people who have heard from Pallmeyer
Has anyone heard from Gilbert?
Anyone heard from Zagel?
Zagel was interviewing through yesterday.
where did Mihm hire from?
In case anyone is wondering, I checked on the Rockford judges and was told there were no openings because they had career clerks.

Got the official "I am done hiring" email from Kenelly today.
Has anyone heard from Pallmeyer, Hibbler or Lefkow?
Pallmeyer has interviewed, but I don't know if she has hired. Anyone?
Zagel is done - got 500+ apps per his email....wow...
Anyone know if Denlow has made his decision??
Castillo is done
McDade update anyone? When I called chambers late last week they were still reviewing the applications that they had received?
Bucklo hasn't done anything yet. Unclear on whether she ever will.
what do you mean by "unclear if she ever will"? does she have clerks who may stay on??
Unclear means unclear. Sorry, but I just don't know.
Unclear means unclear. Sorry, but I just don't know.
So in other words, your comment was pretty pointless and of no practical value to anyone. Thanks for the update.
pallmeyer is done.
Has anyone heard from the bankr judges yet??
Yes, Goldgar is done.
So is Doyle. No word on Wedoff.
Wedoff has hired at least one. Don't know how many he gets.
From Lefkow's secretary today: "She has interviewed and she has made a hiring decision."
Where did Goldgar hire from?
Any updates on Bucklo, Darrah, Holderman, Hibbler, Moran, or Meyers?
Darrah hired one from Michigan.
I've heard that Judge Holderman isn't hiring anyone.
Goldgar hired from Minnesota
Schmetterer posted a job opening for a clerk on the IL ND Bankruptcy website on 9/29
Does Darrah still have a slot left or is he done?
P.S. McDade in Peoria will be a while yet per a call to chambers.
Any updates on Hibbler? And have Lefkow and Pallmeyer definitley hired?
Pallmeyer has hired.
Anyone know McDade's timeframe? I'd love to interview with him because he is my hometown federal judge but I have other judicial interviews in process and may not be on the market much longer....
Gilbert anyone?
Anyone know anything about Bucklo or Holderman?
Is Darrah officially done?
Anyone have a status update on:
Denlow
Hibbler
Moran
Reagan
Updates on Moe, Larry, and Curly?
I just called Hibbler's office. The woman said that he is interviewing now and that if he wants to interview someone he will call them.
Is Gilber done?
Reagan's done.
Moran update anyone??

Moran is calling.
Bucklo or Holderman updates anyone?
Just got an e-mail from Holderman stating that he has hired for 2007.
just out of utter curiousity, anyone know where Mihm hired from?
Mihm hired from Marquette
Has anyone heard anything from McDade yet? I know he had not started a few weeks ago, but has he started since then?

McDade guy -- nobody wants your life story.
FWIW, McDade just switched his status in OSCAR to not accepting apps. However, he did not change his status in FLCIS to filled nor has he sent rejection emails via OSCAR like most judges do, so he may just have cut off the ability for further individuals to send in apps but not yet hired.
Anyone know if Leinenweber only considers alums or if he also considers 3Ls?
Hibbler is done.
"District Judge Joe Billy McDade in Peoria [Illinois] has had a law clerk who has been on sick leave for two months. Thanks for the above - do you know if this is a term or career vacancy? McDade, I think, has one of each.

not to my knowledge, but he is going to find all the best players are gone at this point.
Despite the previous poster's insightful analysis, I consider myself a decent "player," and I haven't heard anything from Leinenweber. Think 5 weeks out, I can assume I'm toast? Should I expect a rejection letter? Any new info?
he sent emails today to schedule interviews...
do you know if he sent for the fall or the january position or both?
Has anyone heard anything from Judge Bucklo? Is she scheduling interviews? Has she hired?
re: Leinenweber- the email was sent for both, but it's hard to know if they're doing multiple rounds of interviews or not...
Does Leinenweber prefer those currently in practice at a firm over 3Ls?
