Just FYI: It looks like you are missing districts for the Northern Mariana Islands and the Virgin Islands. Guam currently doesn't have a judge yet, but that district is also missing.

Katherine McDaniel said...

Thanks for pointing that out! That should be taken care of now.

Anonymous said...

You're also missing the district court for D.C. and the D.C. equivalent of state courts.

Katherine McDaniel said...

Thanks, they should be there now.

Anonymous said...

Hi Katherine, thanks for doing this again -- it is extremely helpful! Just wanted to point out that when comments are posted, only the time stamp is visible, but I can't see the date of the post.

Katherine McDaniel said...

Thanks for letting me know. The date/time stamp format for comments should be correct now.

Anonymous said...

I am not sure if you intend to post it but you are missing the U.S. COURT OF APPEALS FOR THE ARMED FORCES.

Katherine McDaniel said...

Why, oh, why, did I not take Fed Jur? Seriously, I have been kicking myself everyday. (also, for any judges reading who might on the off chance be reading this, I am planning on auditing fed jur next semester.) Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces as been added right before the court of appeals for Veteran's Claims. Thanks for the heads up on that!

The 5th and 6th Circuits are listed in reverse order, and both descriptions say they are for the 6th Circuit.

Katherine McDaniel said...

The 5th and 6th circuit posts have been corrected!

Anonymous said...

Thanks for fixing that, and for all your hard work setting up this blog! :)

Anonymous said...

Thanks for this blog -- it's so helpful. I just had a quick question -- is there any way to be able to see when a certain link has been last updated (for example, to show on the first page that the latest comment about the 2nd Circuit was from 2.30 pm, etc., so you can tell if there's something new from the last time you checked) -- I know you mentioned you don't do that because you want them to stay in order, but is there some other way to indicate that?

Anonymous said...

How about a U.S. Supreme Court Clerkship post?

Katherine McDaniel said...

Re: updates. There's no way to see if a post has new comments except to keep track of the number of comments there were last time. I know it's a bit annoying, but the comments themselves have accurate time/date dates so hopefully it is not too much of an issue.

Re: The Supreme Court. I can add a post for that if you like. I was hestitant to do so becuase the Supreme Court's law clerk hiring process seems to be its own thing.

Anonymous said...

You have a great blog. Do you like texas hold em game ? Then I would advice you to go to this texas hold em game site where I won a lot of money!

Anonymous said...

Thanks for this blog -- it's tremendously helpful. One suggestion: is it possible to set up an RSS feed for each post, so that, for example, one could subscribe to the D.C. Circuit feed and find out whenever a new comment was posted there?

Katherine McDaniel said...

I'm working on the per-post comment feeds. See the most recent announcement for furher explanation. Thanks.

Katherine McDaniel said...

Okay, RSS feeds for comments are now available! See the Announcements post for details.

Anonymous said...

Most of the US district court links aren't working.

Katherine McDaniel said...

Do you mean the site feed links or the links to the actual posts? I just checked and the links seemed to be fine. Which ones in particular are down?

Anonymous said...

At a minimum:

DC, Delaware, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia.

Katherine McDaniel said...

This is very odd. I republished the blog and the links work fine in Mozilla and IE. I don't know why it's not working for you (I'm
assuming you've tried all the usual fixes, deleting your cache, refreshing the page, etc.) Do any the links work for you? Are other people have the same problem?

Anonymous said...

I was the commenter from 12:18.

They work for me in the sense that I click on them and they take me somewhere, but they don't go to the right place. DC link goes to Delaware page, Delaware link goes to DC page, Virginia link goes to Washington page, Washington link goes to West Virginia page, and West Virginia link goes to Wisconsin page.

I've spot checked about six other links and they all go to the proper page (including Florida and Wisconsin).

Anonymous said...

"Delaware link goes to DC page"

Sorry, that should have been:

Delaware link goes to the Florida page

Anonymous said...

You should also make a category for the Court of Federal Claims.

Judge Braden is giving interview offers.

Katherine McDaniel said...

Re: links. I understand now. You mean in the master link post some of the links are mis-directing. I'm working on correcting that.

Re: Court of Federal Claims, there is a post for that. It's here.

Katherine McDaniel said...

The master list should be correct now. But, as usual, let me know if there are any errors. Thanks to every one who has pointed out problems.

Anonymous said...

If a judge is following the guidelines, then what is the earliest time he or she can call or email an applicant on 9/14? 12:01 AM or 12:01 PM?

Katherine McDaniel said...

Supposedly it's 12PM, EDT (so 9AM in L.A., 10AM in Denver, 11 AM in Dallas, etc).

But I know that even judges who waited until Thursday to call, still called prior to the noon deadline.

Anonymous said...

It would be really helpful to have an idea of who does/does not follow the hiring plan--any way of compiling a list of non-HP judges on this blog?

Thanks for putting this together!

Anonymous said...

I've been visiting this site for a while now, and it's run quite smoothly. I've noticed, though, over the past few days - perhaps since the RSS feed experiment - the page runs much slower and my cursor goes in and out of "thinking" mode while on the site.

I'm using Mozilla.

I haven't noticed a slow-down on any other sites I visit or on my computer.

Katherine McDaniel said...

Re: misc. judicial gossip. I did set a similar post last year, but not a lot of people contributed to it. I'm happy to set one up now, though it might be a little late since the judges start calling tomorrow.

Re: Run time. I've also been expierencing increased slowness, but I don't think it's the RSS feeds, I think it's a traffic jam.
This blog has been increasing in traffic over the last week, and with links from the big blogs like The Volokh Conspiracy, Above the Law, and Southern Appeal might be slowing the site down a little. But that's a good thing. Not the slowness, of course, but the increase in traffic. If anyone has any specific suggestions to improve site speed (other than removing the feeds), I am open to them. Thanks, Katherine

Katherine McDaniel said...

Okay, a catch-all post has been set up to gather information on judges hiring outside the plan or after the plan, and on unconfirmed judges who are accepting applications.

Anonymous said...

this is great! I wish I knew about this sooner

Anonymous said...

Hansen emailed on 9/14 to D.C. applicants to set up screening interviews through one of his former clerks who lives in the D.C. area.

Anonymous said...

Katherine,

This is a really useful blog (and a great idea). Thanks for putting it together.

Anonymous said...

This is a really great blog but it also has been causing me a lot of anxiety. Each day I keep surfing the blog and finding out how many other people are getting called. I am a 3L in the top 12% of my class who applied by the "plan" to 300 judges (mostly district and magistrate) across the eastern seaboard and have not heard from one!! Is this abnormal? At what point/date should I give up hope?

Katherine McDaniel said...

Well, I'm not really an expert on the process, but having gone through it once before, I would suggest that you be proactive in contacting chambers; especially if there is no news about a particular judge on this blog. A lot of district and magistrate judges do wait until after initial craziness subsides. Also, ask your recommenders if they know any of your judges and would be willing to call chambers on your behalf. Clerkship interviews are more like cocktail parties than wedding receptions, as long as you aren't rude about it, you can ask for an invitation. You won't always get one, but at this point you're not likely to get one if you don't ask.

If you want more detailed advice feel free to e-mail me. If you want to keep anon you can use http://www.anonymousspeech.com/ just put "Clerkship Notification Blog" in the subject line so spam filter doesn't block it.

Anonymous said...

It doesn't appear that some of comment rss feeds are rebuilding automatically. For example, the New York District Court rss feed only has comments until 9/14 but the page shows comments up until 9/22.

Katherine McDaniel said...

I don't if that's a problem with the particular site feed server you are using, or Blogger Beta. I know that the later was having RSS issue. I hate to say this, because I hate not having a technical fix, but the best thing might just be to manually check the blog. It's frustrating, but I'm not sure what else to do. If anyone has suggestions, I am willing to entertain them.

Katherine,

This is a very useful site, but it is laid out in a very un-user-friendly way. (1) The "Master List" -- which is the main impetus for the site and the thing that most viewers will be looking for -- should be at the top of the main page. Currently, anyone wanting to view it has to scroll down a long way before they find it. Your "introduction" should be below it. (2) New updates should appear at the top, not the bottom, so that the viewer doesn't have to scroll down every time he wants to see if anything has changed.

Thanks.

Are there any sites or blogs that have compiled this information into a simple chart? For instance:
DC Circuit-
Garland--2Yale, Harvard, Stanford
Ginsburg--NYU, Columbia, Harvard
Randolph--2Yale, Columbia, Chicago
Sentelle--USC, Washington...
Tatel--...

or something like this? I am a lot earlier in the game (way too early to obsess about this stuff) and am more interested in which judges are hiring from which schools.
Thanks.

I've ever liked things like sand clocks, lava lamps, and the like to well-wishing of just spend in days of yore staring at it as a configuration of catharsis. In a route, it helps me with meditation, to reduce lay stress and just fantasize fro nothing. That's why since I was a kid, in preference to of dolls and cars I've always cool more of such pieces like sand clocks, lava lamps, tuneful boxes etc. So I was most charmed when I base the 2-Laser + LED Shine Manifest Laser Outstrip Gyroscope with Music Effects from DealtoWorld.com protection the Toys section. It's like a melodic caddy, a spinning top, and a moonlight verify all rolled into one. Which is capacious entertainment! The gyroscope transfer outing representing around a minute. The laser explanation show with accompanying music makes this gyroscope a very unequalled fiddle with that my friends be subjected to also been most amused with.

My dogs are also pretty curious prevalent the laser gyroscope I got from DealtoWorld.com. They each occupy oneself with the gyroscope as it spins, although at principal they kept barking at the laser insight show, and also because it produces music. But after they got used it, they've stopped barking but virtuous save up following the gyroscope whenever I start spinning it. Kids are also attractive amused next to it. On occasion it's good to take diverting toys on all sides the house so that you can desert the toy on while the kids are being amused or playing with it while you go prepare scoff or fall heir to changed. The gyroscope is inseparable such trinket with this purpose.

The gyroscope I bought from DealtoWorld.com has a dragon as a design on it, and produces a taper indicate with red, downcast, and unripened colours. Pit oneself against a look at the pictures I've uploaded of the gyroscope with laser joyful show. The music produced from the gyroscope is not that great but allowable adequacy to treat any supplementary visitor to the house. The gyroscope is red and jet-black, making it look extraordinarily cold, and to some masculine with that dragon imprint.

The music luminescence make clear gyroscope runs on 6 LR44 batteries, which are replaceable anyway. I've also euphemistic pre-owned this gyroscope to their heels my girlfriend during our anniversary celebration. I did the cheesy terror of decorating the b & b latitude with roses and when I led her in, I started up the gyroscope as affectionately so that the laser torchlight clarify produces a romantic effect. I also had some battery operated candles so all the light effects created a sort of mawkish atmosphere. She loved it, at near the way, to my relief. I also bought the candles from DealtoWorld.com. These days it seems to be my default shopping placement in favour of all gifts and ideas for romantic occasions.

Since Christmas is coming, this laser radiance playing gyroscope can dialect mayhap be a superb Christmas favour for the toddler or methodical the pet! Alternatively, the gyroscope can simply be a kindly reckoning to the ordinary Christmas decorations. I can imagine placing it near the Christmas tree and perhaps spinning it when guests succeed in the house. Looks like DealtoWorld.com is getting my function thus far again!
